ECC
Error Correction Code (ECC) memory detects and repairs single-bit data corruption in real time to prevent system crashes.
ECC is the gold standard for workstations and servers where uptime is non-negotiable. By utilizing an extra check bit for every 64 bits of data, ECC identifies and fixes single-bit flips (often caused by cosmic rays or magnetic interference) before they reach the CPU. While standard non-ECC RAM ignores these silent errors (leading to the dreaded Blue Screen of Death), ECC maintains data integrity for high-stakes environments like financial modeling and 4K video rendering. It requires a compatible motherboard and processor (such as an AMD Threadripper or Intel Xeon) to function.
