DFR 3
The DFR-3 is a high-temperature Gen IV reactor using separate liquid fuel and lead coolant loops to maximize thermal efficiency.
Dual Fluid Energy Inc. designed the DFR-3 as a 300 MWth (thermal) power plant operating at 1000°C. It separates liquid fuel (undiluted actinide salts) from the lead coolant: a setup that achieves 100% fuel utilization and enables passive safety through gravity-fed freeze plugs. This high-temperature output supports industrial processes (hydrogen production and desalination) while maintaining a power density 10 times higher than conventional light water reactors.
